ABOUT & CONTACT
It's me! Hello. My name is Barney Sheppard, I’m the creator and editor of Barn21. I hope you enjoy the site!
About The Site

Originally under a different name, Barn21 started life in April 2015 when I was at university. It was a platform for me to express my views regarding architectural education and the profession, as well as document my work to aid my development. Since then the site has grown in ambition and variety, and while architecture is still the core focus, diversification has allowed me to explore a range of categories that reflect my personal interests. My curious and opinionated nature facilitated the creation of Barn21, and my enthusiasm for learning coupled with a perfectionist streak led me to learn website coding in order to create the aesthetic you see today. Year on year the site has increased in popularity, and I hope to continue developing it as I continue to grow as an architect, writer and designer.

About Me

Born and raised in the countryside near Reading, England, I graduated from the University of Liverpool in June 2017 with a degree in architecture. My natural enjoyment of problem solving alongside a passion for both design and mathematics makes architecture an ideal fit for my character and interests, and I haven’t looked back since deciding to pursue it. If you want to have a look at some of my work, you can view my portfolio here. As well as the interests shown in the categories above, Spanish is a passion of mine, and I am currently living in Granada until June 2018 with the challenge of obtaining fluency in the language. Looking foward, I am excited to take my first steps in the architectural profession following my year abroad, and am currently seeking work for my RIBA part 1 practical experience.

My Three Design Values
  1. Design should benefit everyone who interacts with the product, both functionally and emotionally.

  2. Long term thinking is not just beneficial, but vital, in the success of a design. A product is only new for a moment.

  3. Intelligent and imaginative interpretation of context is key in creating a novel yet relatable design.
